Yellowdog

Yellow Dog has a location here in Penticton, and it has a much better vibe than the one in Port Moody.

If you’re so inclined, you can sit at the bar and see four different televisions streaming different sports. Today it’s the BC Lions, golf and some US college football game, which isn’t my thing. So let’s focus on the beer.

I’m trying their coconut porter. It’s very dark, yet still light and refreshing. You could easily drink quite a few of these without feeling bloated. The hint of coconut adds a great flavor.

For lunch, I’m trying their Kung Pao. The crispy rice really threw me for a loop at first, but it actually grew on me as I ate more of it. It added a super crunchy texture to the dish. The sauce was a little one-note, making me think it might be pre-made. Not much spice at all. And a Kung Pao should kick your ass.

But it’s still a great spot, especially if you’re into sports. They do some fun things on Saturday afternoons to liven the place up. Today it was a beer stein holding contest, and it was a lot of fun to watch.

If you like microbreweries, Yellow Dog would be a good choice next time you’re in Penticton.
