We tried for ramen this afternoon but were too early, so we headed next door to Jade Palace for dim sum. Good enough.
We were the only white people in the place. Not to be racist, but that’s always a good sign.
It’s always mildly concerning when you don’t recognize half the items on the menu, but we are both pretty adventurous eaters, so we just dove right in.
We each picked three dishes: two we both ordered, plus one different one each to share.
Turns out we should have just ordered one of everything and shared. We got way too much food.
These were chive and prawn steamed dumplings.

Not what I had in mind, but delicious. Maybe a little heavy on the chives, but still great. And dense. Two would have been plenty for me.
I also went with the spring rolls stuffed with prawns and veggies.

These were fantastic. So crunchy and flavourful. Spring rolls are often hit and miss. These were definitely a “hit.”
John had both of these too and loved them.
My third choice was Chinese sausage steamed buns.

I loved these. Not only are they a cool shape, the flavour was great. The steamed bun had a pleasant sweetness and that great stickiness that comes with steamed buns of this type.
The last dish, which I don’t remember the name of, neither of us was a big fan of.

The prawn filling was fine, but the wrapper was quite unpleasant. My chopstick skills are pretty good, but they were almost impossible to pick up. And the texture was not to my taste at all. Slimy is the word I’ll use. I dug out the filling and left the rest.
So, a good lunch, though I’d still have preferred the ramen. It’s always good to try something different.
