The Mudslide is basically a boozy milkshake that somehow got away with calling itself a cocktail, and honestly, I’m not mad about it. Vodka, Kahlúa, Baileys Irish Cream, and heavy cream in equal parts come together over ice and end up as something that tastes like a chocolate coffee dessert with a kick that really sneaks up on you.
The story goes that it was born in the 1970s at the Wreck Bar at the Rum Point Club in Grand Cayman, where a bartender whipped one up for a customer who wanted something sweet and creamy, and the name came from how it looks and how it feels going down.
This isn’t something you sip on a hot patio and then go for a hike. It’s more of a “dessert is the plan tonight” kind of drink, and if you’re going to have one, make it count.
Recipe:
2 oz Baileys Irish cream
2 oz Kahlua
2 oz Vodka
2 oz heavy cream
combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice and mix vigorously.
Strain into a glass with ice and enjoy.
