There are, surprisingly, some really good restaurants in Prince George.
Betulla Burning, The Twisted Cork and Red Tomato pies are three I have had the pleasure of trying.
Now I can add The Wall of Fame to that list.
My son recommended it to me — best sandwiches in town, he says — and I’m glad he mentioned it.
It actually takes quite a lot to impress me when it comes to sandwiches. Two slices of bread and some sliced meat usually isn’t all that thrilling to me. But it’s just a sandwich after all.
But every once in a while someone puts that little extra effort into one that elevates a boring sandwich into something special.
I myself recently started making a gourmet grilled cheese that I learned from the late great Anthony Bourdain. Google it. You’ll thank me.
And The Wall of Fame is at that level.
We got three sandwiches today and shared them around so we could try them all.
The Plain Jane is your basic grilled cheese with cheddar, Swiss and mozzarella. Simple yet delicious.
The Brie, fig and apple sandwich is exactly what it sounds like. This is an excellent combination which could only be improved by adding some duck.
And I had a Montreal smoked meat minus the sauerkraut. Tasted pretty genuine.
All three sandwiches were fantastic. And when I praise a sandwich like that it must be good.
This particular location, near downtown, has a little bit of seating, but I think typically people get their sandwiches to go here.
And with the average sandwich running around $15, it’s not bad value for the quality.
Definitely somewhere to check out next time you’re in Prince George.
