i like to think I’m pretty familiar with Indian food, at least the Indian food we know here in North America.
All the different curries, sweets and Chast.
I’ve never had Dosa though. Really knew very little about them at all actually. I haven’t really seen them offered in the Indian restaurant I am acquainted with, with is no small number in the GVA.
So when I the Chettinad Dosa Palace one day driving by I knew we had to give it a try.
If you, like I was, are unfamiliar withe dish, Dosa is a fermented crepe made from white lentils and rice, then stuffed with different fillings. Both vegetarian and non vegetarian alike. It originates from the South of India.
Chettinad Dosa house offers more than just Dosa though. You will find the typical assortment of curries in most Indian restaurants. We are here for the namesake though.
The Lamb Masala Dosa

Unfortunately I told Merilynn what she was eating and from that point she couldn’t get past the fermented part so didn’t eat and of it except the filling. Which was excellent.
Tender, delicious chunks of lamb with potatoes with onions and spices. Not hot spicy, just flavourful.
Served with a couple of sauces to heat things up a bit and a soup that was good, if a little underwhelming.
And a very good Mango Lassi.

$14 for a Dosa of that size is pretty good value to me.
Ok, I realize I have absolutely nothing to compare this Dosa to. But in my books that meal was very good.. Value and quality and superb service.
Looking forward to my next Dosa.
