Chambar

This Sunday morning finds us making another attempt to get into Jam Cafe.

This will be our third attempt. Our second in Vancouver and once we tried to get into Victoria as well.

This doesn’t include the couple times I’ve gone down solo to get in with only one successful venture.

Every time we go there has been a huge lineup. The only reason I got in the one time by myself as I said at the bar as there were no tables available.

Yes this place is that good.

It’s probably the best benny I’ve ever had.

And I’ve had lots of Benny’s.

And like those previous attempts this morning is no exception. There’s about 40 people in line. It went halfway down the block.

And as good as it is neither of us are going to wait that long.

Just two doors down from Jam is Chambar. It’s a little more upscale, but whenever has that been a problem for me? And we have had dinner here and it was excellent. And there’s absolutely no wait. I suspect hey get a fair amount of spillover from those not willing to wait in line down the way.

Let’s get started with a coffee, a beautiful latte. Fantastic espresso, not too acidic.

Chambar doesn’t serve up a typical brunch menu. As I said it’s a little more upscale. Here’s the menu for you to peruse.

I decided on the paella.

It’s not a true Paella, it was curried orzo, not rice. They did do a fake soccarat to emulate the original, adding a nice flavour. The chorizo had a nice kick and the cucumber helped to cool that off a little. I wouldn’t have complained if the eggs were less done. A runny yolk would have added nice flavour. Overall though a very nice dish.

Merilynn decided on the Bon Matin, a good morning as it were.

Basically a breakfast charcuterie board. Other than the tepinade that kicked my taste buds into next week, this was quite good. Love that bread, a great thick crust, I’m guessing made in house. Prosciutto and Brie and a soft boiled egg.

Chambar did well this morning. It may be a bit too fancy for some. Read “different” there, but I very much enjoyed the food.

Jam Cafe won’t escape us too much longer though I hope.
