I had a craving for a good curry tonight.

But not Indian.

Don’t get me wrong, Indian is my favorite cuisine. Just need something different tonight

So the search is on.

Somehow there’s a Thai place a few blocks from me that I hadn’t noticed before.

It’s not because I’m white, I just have terrible eyesight.

As we walk in we do notice it is a bit smokey, they need to turn the kitchen fan on a higher setting.

We also notice we are the only white people in the place. That is usually a good sign. I do find it strange in New West though. I would say New West is one of the whiter cities in the lower mainland. I mean even the brown people in New West are white.

The decor is contempory, but not fancy. Quite dark but pleasant.

First up we had the Goong Tod Grob. Is it just me or do the Siamese people have the absolutely best names for their food?

For the whities out there reading this that’s crispy prawns.

I conservatively estimate I could eat 40 of these.

Oh so good. Love that crunch with the sticker sweet plum sauce on the side.

Next up was Gaeng Leung.

For all you round eyes out there that’s yellow curry with chicken.

First time I’ve had tomato in a yellow curry and it was great. We got it medium hot (that’s how you tell your customer is white), with the spice coming in some bites and not in others. That makes every mouthful suspenseful since you don’t know when it’s gonna hit you.

Of the different Thai curries yellow is by far my favorite. It might the the tumeric and ginger that differentiates it from the red and green and make it stand out uo me. However they all are good.

The best named meal on the menu was the Pad Pak Nam Prik Paow. We didn’t try it tonight but that might be the coolest name for a dish anywhere. I would even eat it due to the name and it has broccoli! That’s saying something. Next time!

The service could be a bit quicker, but that might be cultural expectations, not sure.

Regardless it was an excellent meal at a reasonable price.

I used to go all the way to Burquitlam for my Thai. Not anymore. Not when there’s this quality of food minutes from my place.
