The Birch Door

Today is my third visit to The Birch Door.

While the food has been ok I do find it a little on the pricey side. If you live in Bellingham it’s probably fine, but with the exchange rate the prices can add up pretty quick.

As evidenced by my cappuccino.

This came out of one of those automatic espresso machines. The flavour is fine, but that’s no cappuccino, it’s more a latte. And at $6.50 U.S, by the time I get the bill it’s more like $9. I should have stuck with water.

And then there’s my Eggs Benedict.

If the cook had poached my eggs properly it would have been decent, however one was well over done. I want my eggs as soft as they can possibly do them. The second egg was better.

The potatoes however were a complete disaster. Neither shredded or cubed, kind of smashed I guess, they were under seasoned and undercooked, I forced a couple down and then quickly gave up. If anyone out there reading this likes these please let me know what you see in them.

So by the time I’m said and done today has cost me $35 USD That works out to be CAD $49. I’ve paid that much and maybe even a bit more in Michelin quality restaurants and am happy to do so when the quality is there.

The Birch just doesn’t measure up to that level though.

This is my last visit here, I noticed a Denny’s down the street for next time. One thing you can count on is a Denny’s build your own slam.
