Upon learning of The Birch Door I just assumed that it was a local eatery, not being far from Birch Bay, but we discovered that this restaurant has quite a history. It was started in Chicago 50 years ago.
I thought it would be a small little local cafe. Turns out it’s a high volume well established restaurant. And it was packed when we got there at 9 am. Apparently it doesn’t get busy til 11ish?
Aside from the tables being packed in a little tightly, the ambiance is pleasant enough.
So since we are in the US I thought I would introduce Merilynn to a standard American staple breakfast. Biscuits and gravy.
Poached eggs and thick cut bacon on the side. This was half the portion!
If you need something to fill you up at breakfast then this should be near the top of your list.
The biscuit was tasty and flakey. The gravy not too salty, something I have had with this dish before. I wouldn’t have minded the eggs poached a little softer but not the end of the world. The bacon was great. Crispy and thick. Really nice.
The service was good but the wait for the food a little longer than I’d like. But not terribly unexpected. Every table was full after all. And it was worth the wait.
This was a Friday. I’d hate to see the wait on the weekend.
Pretty happe with The Birch Door. I’d take this over Denny’s everytime.
