Tablet is something that I grew up on, a treat from my Grandmother.

For years I have tried to replicate it. I got close, but not exact.

Then recently came a breakthrough.

it turned out perfectly. And my mother agreed.

Here then is the recipe.

I use a half cookie sheet cookie pan with edges, which fits 1x recipe perfectly. It’s 8×12 inches. I line it with parchment paper. A 9×9 brownie pan would work as well.

Ingredients:

900 grams of granulaed sugar

85 grams of butter

1 cup whole milk (do not use lower fat milk)

In a large heavy bottom pot on medium heat combine the three ingredients. Continuously stir ensuring all sugar is dissolved.

Make sure you use a large pot as the mixture will expand while cooking.

Then add one can of sweetened condensed milk.

Turn heat to medium high to achieve a light rolling boil.

Stir continuously for approx 20 minutes to soft ball stage. 248 degrees F. I highly suggest using a thermometer to ensure accuracy. The mixture will have changed to a light golden color.

Once you’ve reached 248 degrees F remove from heat.
Continue stirring. The mixture will start to thicken as it cools.
Stir for approx 5 minutes and then pour into your prepared pan.

After a few minutes as the mixture continues to set score the top into bit size pieces for easy portioning.

Let cool and enjoy!
