Have you ever looked at a plate of food and known immediately it’s not going to be good?

I mean sure I could find someone on Earth that thinks that this is a good pizza.

You know that guy that’s been bobbing around on the ocean in a life raft for 3 weeks cuz his boat sank and waiting for rescue while drinking his own pee?

I bet he’d love it.

Or maybe that guy that was lost in the Amazon jungle as a child and adopted by an indigenous tribe and just managed to find his way out after 17 years?

I’m pretty sure he’d gobble the whole thing down in 2 minutes.

Or the guy that’s been stuck for the weekend in the hospital waiting for surgery who has been eating the “food” that they serve you there?

Nope, not even he enjoyed it.

All three of us knew right away it wasn’t going to be good.

Looks overdone for starters. The ham had no flavour. Is that even real cheese? Frankly the only thing that was edible on this pizza was the pineapple. And I know a lot of you don’t even think pineapple belongs on pizza.

I managed to get two pieces down. Metilynn only managed half a piece. John only one.

I left it with him as it may be better than nothing at 2:00 a.m. and you’re starving with no other food options. But I doubt it.

So if you’re thinking about ordering Pizza One, maybe think elsewhere. In this part of the world my recommendation would be Emilio Finatti.

Apparently I’ve had Pizza One before. I had totally forgotten about that experience. I wish I hadn’t.

It’s fish and chips for dinner tonight.

And other than maybe Pajo’s I think Cockney Kings might be the best in the Lower Mainland.

Unfortunately tonight they were out of Halibut so it’s Salmon and Haddock

And we decided to try the Louisiana shrimp tonight as well.

We like to get delivery and throw it a really hot oven for 5 minutes when it gets here. Crisps it up just like you were eating right out of the fryer. Well very close anyways.

The quality is very consistent here. The fish is always cooked very well. It’s not overly greasy. The shrimp were great too. Though I did have better Louisiana shrimp in Louisiana.

So while Pajo’s might be a bit better, you have to drive to Richmond to get it this time of year. I’ll take Cockney Kings over a drive to Richmond most days.

Trying One Bites best pizza in Toronto again just to make sure it’s as good as Dave says.

Pepperoni this time though.

It was delivery at about 11pm. So we will go with maybe not quite as good as if it was fresh at the Pizzeria, but still excellent as it’s 11 at night.

Such a good pizza. I would never complain about more pepperoni on pizza. Check out The 100 at Finatti’s. Nevertheless a great pie.

Great under carriage and good tasty pepperoni.

I think if your a pizza lover North of Brooklyn should be a stop when you’re in Toronto.

Our next stop,after a walk through grafitti alley, was Pancho’s. Famous for their churros.

For me churros are really hit and miss. For instance, the Taco Factory in New West has excellent tacos but terrible churros.

We just had plain but they do have filled ones with chocolate and dulce de leche.

Pancho’s churros were good. Crispy on the outside chewy on the inside. Not too sweet and just the right amount of cinnamon sugar. A good size too. One person could easily try 2 flavours.

I can’t say I’m often on the hunt for a churro, but this would be a good destination for you should you happen to be in the mood.

Have you heard of One Bite Pizza review?

It’s a pretty famous YouTube channel where Dave Portnoy does a pizza review. If I understand it right to date he’s done thousands and if you get a good review you’re going to do very well from that point on.

I do enjoy watching the reviews. They are short, to the point and as I’m a pizza lover as well, relevant to me.

So he was in Toronto last year and visited 15 different pizza joints in the city. His highest rated stop was North of Brooklyn. At 8.4 that’s a pizza place worth traveling up to an hour for.

So it was pretty high on my list of things to do while we are here in Toronto. It is a chain and the actual location that he did his review at was on Queen Street. So when we arrived and found it now to be an A&W we were a little surprised. If the pizza is that good why is it gone?

However I was undeterred to try this pizza. It took us a little while to make it to the next location which is a couple miles away. We did manage to get there, but in a very round about fashion. First a bus, then a streetcar, then off, then back on to same streetcar, then subway, then a 10 minute walk. Cripes this city is big. But we eventually did make it to their location on Church Street. By this point we were at about 27,000 steps so far and if the pizza wasn’t great Merilynn was gonna be some pissed at me. Fingers crossed…..

We got the New York cheese and added smoked bacon.

There is no seating here so we found a school down the street where we sat down on a bench to eat. Actually can’t complain, it was quite lovely to sit in the park and eat.

My initial impressions?

Yes this pie looks great. Thin crust, great undercarriage.

3 cheeses, mozza blend, Grana Padano and pecorino with the smoked bacon.

The taste lived up to the 8.4 thank God. I probably would have been sleeping on the floor tonight if this pizza had sucked considering how much walking I made Merilynn do.

And it was only $22 bucks for a 14″.

Really good value IMHO.

So if you’re in TO and anywhere near a North of Brooklyn Pizzeria I, as well as Dave Portnoy, would highly recommend a trip to try this pizza out.

I may have trouble overall finding good food here but I have no trouble finding good pizza.

Went with Hawaiian tonight with Capoccolo.

I know there’s some of you out there will say pineapple doesn’t belong on pizza. But I happen to like how the sweetness of the grilled pineapple offsets the spiciness of the capoccolo.

Anyways as usual the pizza was excellent.

Needed a quick dindin tonight as we were running errands so just picked up a lasagne to go.

This wasn’t their best effort.

The sauce for some reason was overly sweet. But otherwise good.
