We are at the Burnaby location today.

In the past I haven’t found it as good as the New Westminster location.

Let’s see if today is any better.

Haddock and chips with gravy.

Really good today!

That’s a decent sized portion of fish and it wasn’t too greasy. Both fish and chips were nice and crispy. Must have been right out of the fryer.

New West BC

It’s fish and chips for dinner tonight.

And other than maybe Pajo’s I think Cockney Kings might be the best in the Lower Mainland.

Unfortunately tonight they were out of Halibut so it’s Salmon and Haddock

And we decided to try the Louisiana shrimp tonight as well.

We like to get delivery and throw it a really hot oven for 5 minutes when it gets here. Crisps it up just like you were eating right out of the fryer. Well very close anyways.

The quality is very consistent here. The fish is always cooked very well. It’s not overly greasy. The shrimp were great too. Though I did have better Louisiana shrimp in Louisiana.

So while Pajo’s might be a bit better, you have to drive to Richmond to get it this time of year. I’ll take Cockney Kings over a drive to Richmond most days.

Popped in to our favorite chippy after a very long day.

Salmon and chips

Haddock and chips

Both excellent as usual.

We do prefer the New West location. The restaurant was pretty dirty tonight. I guess it was all you can eat night but the carpet could use a sweep.

Burnaby BC

My first trip to the Burnaby location.

We have been to the New West shop many times and it’s always good.

As with the New West store, the Burnaby location has a Pantry restaurant feel. Pretty plain, not somewhere you’d want to spend a lot of time. But not awful.

Along with my favorite, the haddock, I decided to also try the special feature, the snapper.

I’ve never had the snapper before as fish and chips. I use it regularly for ceviché at home but it’s not common to see it in a chippy.

The snapper is the one in the background. You can’t get an idea of the scale of that piece but it was massive. The waitress even commented on its size.

The haddock was excellent as usual. I prefer halibut, but I find the extra cost to be not worth it.

The snapper was nice. It was well cooked and not greasy, in so far as deep-fried fish isn’t greasy. Having said that I’m not sure I would get it again. My preference, first to worst, is haddock, salmon, halibut, snapper, cod and then pollock.

Had a Kilkenny with my meal.

A great Irish beer. Dark but not bitter or heavy. Great head and caramel taste.

I don’t think you can go wrong with either location of Cockney Kings fish and chips.

Port Moody BC

I finally made it to Rocky Point park this summer.

I’ve always wanted to go to try the fish and chips as the Pajo’s in Steveston is the best fish and chips in the lower mainland. But who wants to drive to Steveston for God Sakes?

And who knew there was a pier that’s probably better than the one in White Rock?

Both times we’ve been it’s been busy but not packed. We only had to wait about 10 minutes for our order each time.

The first visit we had just one piece of salmon and one piece of halibut. Both were fantastic. I am a big fan of Cockney Kings here in the West but I’m sorry guys, Pajo’s is just a little bit better.

The second time we went we had a three-piece with chips. One cod, one salmon and one halibut. Excellent again.

I do believe this is some of the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. Thin crispy batter and cooked perfectly both times.

And it’s seconds fresh out of the fryer.

Next time we will try the snapper.

Really really nice.

As for price? I would recommend getting the three-piece and chips. We paid about the same both times. And the second time we got chips and a third piece of fish. Much better value.

Yes I will still keep going to Cockney Kings. I think the Rocky Point location is only open during the summer and Steveston is just too far away even if it is the best fish and chips.

If you do go to Steveston though stop at the Scottish shop and get some haggis!
