New West BC

Been working too many hours of late. Pizza for dinner I think.

I’ve been eating a lot of Pizza Ludica lately, it is my favorite pie. Tonight though I’m gonna go with something different.

After some browsing I decided on Papa Leo’s. They have 7 locations around the area with juat.counter service at most from doing some research online.

Went with a Hawaiian and zinged it up a little with some Capiccolo and some Parmesan.

So this is a pretty standard looking pizza. I would bet that if I were to put an Omega pizza, a Pizza Factory pizza and a Papa Leo’s pizza on the same table you’d probably have difficulty telling them apart.

Having said that, all those pizzas are pretty decent. None of them will wow you, but none will disappoint either.

Undercarriage was crispy. The topping plentiful and tasty. The cheese was gooey

Overall this is a solid Friday night football or poker night pizza.

One bite pizza review:

I find myself at Cactus Club again. This is three weeks in a row I think. This us stop number two of the night.

I just had an appetizer at the Taphouse an hour ago so don’t need anything big here either.

I’ve benn wanting to try the ravioli for some time. I find myself getting the ceviché most times so I think I’ll mix it up tonight.

This is absolutely fantastic.

Butternut squash and mascarpone ravioli in a truffle butter sauce topped with prawns, pine nuts and crispy sage leaves.

They nailed this one tonight. Sometimes you get the prawns slightly overcooked but not tonight. Perfectly done. The pasta was al dente. The filling so creamy. Add the crunch of the pine nuts for texture and you have just a lovely dish.

Looks great under the candle light too.

And there’s my G and T sitting in the background. Not the greatest selection of gins at Cactus, they could work on expanding their selection

I know a lot of people complain about CC these days. I myself think some of these newer ones are becoming a little bit too “corporate” feeling. But as long as Iron Chef Feenie keeps knocking out dishes like this I’ll keep coming back.

Food 9/10

G and T 9/10

Quick stop at Cactus Club for food today with friends.

Went with Ceviché today as it will soon disappear off the summer menu so want to get it while I can. It is one of the better Cevichés around.

The Ceviché itself was very good. However I did have to send the chips back. They were heavily oversalted. Almost inedible actually. They were very quick to fry up a new batch for me. Though oddly enough the server said “a fresh batch out of the oven” when she brought them to me. Considering the lack of any grease that makes more sense. Would be better fried but whatever. At least edible this time.

The Ceviché here has thinly sliced radishes and jalapeños which are really nice. A little bite and a little heat

For me this is a go to dish on the summer menu if your local Cactus has it on the menu. Not all do…..

Food 8/10

Service 9/10

Value 8/10

Overall 8/10
