Ok so the goal tonight is to win enough at the casino to pay for our dinner at Gordon Ramsay’s burger restaurant in Coquitlam. As it’s a Ramsay restaurant we’re going to have to do pretty well at the casino, as it ain’t gonna be cheap.

What do you think the chances of that are? Rather than heading right to the restaurant we decided to try a slot machine before dinner. Just to suss things out.

Well lo and behold, Merilynn won $43. That’s a pretty good start. Now let’s get some food in us.

I have been here a couple times before and wasn’t a fan of the burgers. However the lobster roll was excellent so that’s what we going for again.

And again it was excellent. The brioche bun, baked and I assume made in house was very fresh.

It was lightly toasted and filled with plenty of lobster and prawn meat. A lemon aioli finished it off nicely

Excellent flavour and quality from one of the world’s top chefs.

I couldn’t resist a milkshake tonight. I’m trying the sticky toffee. In pudding form it’s one of Gordon’s signature dishes and it’s always excellent. Could the milkshake version be as good?

Turns out might actually be better.

I was expecting a very thick shake, especially with the diameter of the straw I was given. But it wasn’t at all. Very light, not overly sweet, with crunchy caramel pieces adding a nice texture.

It would be very easy to drink two of those.

Merilynn had a mock Mojito as she was driving tonight.

It was ok, but didn’t capture flavour of the real thing. You could really notice the absence of the rum.

So $75 when all was said and done. That’s not cheap for a sandwich and two drinks. We are up $43 right now, but we still have done work to do.

My turn to pick a machine, trying to get that $30 more. I promptly lost $30. Slot machines do not like me. I don’t often win much on them.

But somehow Merilynn ended up picking three more machines that hit bonuses, the last one being a $60 win.

After the dust settled we ended up winning even slightly more than our dinner cost us. So job done! Anytime you can walk out of the casino ahead of the house its a good night in my books.

9/10

I find myself back at the Great Canadian Casino tonight. Hopefully tonight’s trip to Gordon’s burger joint is better than the first.

Let’s start things off with a shake shall we?

Chocolate for me Vanilla for Tom.

Pretty good shake. Thick and creamy. And not bad value at $5. (Edit: my bad eyes read the menu wrong. They are $9.50 each. I retract my statement about good value)

Onion rings to share.

Now those are beautiful.

Thin and crispy batter with a good amount of salt. Excellent batter to onion ratio. I really don’t like super thick batter.

My only complaint was that they were a bit greasy. I can hear some of you out there saying “well they were deep-fried in oil dummy.” Your right they were. I just don’t like the heavy amount of oil I had to wipe off my fingers.

I decided we were gonna skip a burger tonight. Wasn’t overly thrilled with the one I had a few days ago

We were considering the fish and crisps sandwich but they were out so the Lobster and Prawn roll it was.

Now this is more like what I expect when eating at a Ramsey restaurant.

Lobster and prawn on a toasted brioche bun with a lemon aioli. It was really good. Could it use more lobster? Sure! Who doesn’t want more lobster? I still really enjoyed it.

Is it worth $32? That’s another question. I’m not sure that it is.

We got the truffle fries for a side. They were better last time. Oh well, still tasty, just not as fresh.

We did sit in the restaurant this time and it was nothing special. Could have been any restaurant anywhere in Canada. After being at his Fish and Chips and at Hell’s Kitchen I was expecting more theming. Pretty disappointing.

So this is visit #2 to Gordon Ramsey Burger. This certainly was better than our first time here. I won’t be in a huge hurry for visit #3.

Seeing as I’ve recently been to Hell’s Kitchen and Ramsey’s Fish and Chips (Las Vegas) it’s only fitting that I would try his burger joint when it opened here in Coquitlam. If you haven’t heard about it yet it’s at the Great Canadian Casino.

It’s opening day and there was a line up at 11am on Monday morning. Not unexpected. We decided to sit at the bar rather than wait so I don’t actually know what the interior of the restaurant is like.

As it’s opening day we had hoped we might see Gordon, but alas he was not in the house. There was a rumour he might be around at some point today though.

Christine Wilson, who won season 10 of Hell’s Kitchen has been in town doing the training. She is now the Culinary VP of the Gordon Ramsey North America group. So I expect the burger to be good.

I had the Farmhouse burger with truffle fries.

It’s a bacon cheeseburger with a fried egg.

I’m thinking the bun is made in house, it’s very fresh

There was a great sear on the patty itself that gave the meat great flavour. However the burger has no sauce. This made the burger overall quite dry. Next time I’ll get a side of the garlic aioli to put on the burger. I’ll have to get tomato and lettuce added too.

The fries were excellent. Fresh and crispy. The garlic aioli was very good.

I’ll be back in a few days.

Gonna try the Fish sandwich. A friend of mine had it today and it looked excellent.

I should have maybe skipped the burger….

If I’m gonna spend that much for a burger again I think I’ll head to Burger Heaven in New West instead. No disrespect Gordon, its just better value.

GR also has a steakhouse opening next year at the Riverrock. I have been to his steakhouse in Vegas. It was excellent. I will also head there when it opens.

New West BC

Quick stop for a bite.

Had the Char burger again.

Bacon and cheese on top.

I guess if I had anything to complain about is that they could season it better. Other than that this is way better than Raunchy Ron’s or the burger Monarch.

$12 and made to order in 5 minutes.
