Piva

New West BC

A chic Italian eatery in the Anvil Centre in New West, Piva has been on my list to try for a while.

So on a busy Friday evening after seeing the King Tut experience we stopped in for dinner.

I started with a Viola cocktail. Gin and Cointreau with mango and guava juices with a sprig of thyme. Very refreshing!

Merilynn had the Piva Diva.

St Germain, Prosecco, elderflower and lemon. Just as good as mine, just a bit sweeter.

We had a couple appies for dinner.

First of was a Pork belly with fennel salad.

A very pretty plate, but wasn’t our favorite. I personally prefer my pork belly more crispy. The flavor was great however. Hey it’s pork belly! The fennel salad worked really well with it.

Up next was Wild Boar meatballs with portobello mushrooms and a demi cream sauce. The meatballs were fantastic. So soft and packed with flavour. Merilynn gets the fungus grown in shit. And the sauce? It was ok. But not the greatest. However I did find it good enough to finish the plate. Except the shrooms. That’s a pretty good amount of food for an appy. Not sure why you’d need a main course after that dish.

I didn’t get a pic of the bread, but it was a beautiful fresh Focaccia. Big crumb structure and very light. Oil and vinegar for dipping of course.

So overall I’m gonna say we weren’t crazy impressed with Piva. I’ve heard the pizza is good, so another visit will be in our future. But they didn’t score huge points tonight with us

There’s probably better Italian food not too far away. We will be at Artusi uptown next week. Watch for our thoughts on that.
