The Taphouse

Coquitlam BC

This is my second visit to the Coquitlam Tap House. The first time was only beers so that visit doesn’t count.

I’ve been to the Surrey location quite a number of times for drinks with friends but quite quickly learned the food there is not great. I hear since then they have new chefs. Maybe it’s better now?

I will say I do find the Coquitlam location much nicer as it’s brighter and more welcoming.

Today I tried all three beers they had on special.

I was rather taken by the Deep Cove Chocolate Coconut Porter.

It’s a darker beer with a really nice balance of chocolate and coconut. Neither flavour overpowers the other and it is a full bodied beer. Not Guinness heavy though. Just the right amount of mouth fee

I must be one of the only people who likes it though. They are blowing it out at $3.50 a pint.

This was only stop one tonight so I just had a small plate. The Spicy Ahi Tuna Crispy Crunch roll.

There’s a lot going on here, but it all worked together in what was overall a nice dish. Soy, sesame, scallions, peppers, cucumbers, seaweed, tuna and an orange wasabi aioli that finished it off.

Sushi-ish?

Whatever I liked it. Something I would have again.

Food 7/10

Beer 10/10 That’s gonna be a new favorite if I can find it again.
