The Boathouse

New Westminster BC

Somehow in my quest to find New Westminster’s best breakfast I had forgotten about The Boathouse.

After our visit this morning I wish I had never remembered.

So they have quite a unique Benny on the menu, a trio. Which is perfect for us as we usually share.

The three are Canadian bacon, Smoked Salmon (Lox) and Shrimp and crab.

So I hate lox. I mean really despise it. So that one is all Merilynn. She does love lox. But this Benny she wasn’t feeling.

The other two were mediocre at best.

It was lukewarm when it arrived. The Hollandaise was bland and in short supply. The eggs were poached well, but one had a funny texture, like it was old. The potatoes tasted fine. Onion and garlic added to the flavour. They were as hot as the benny was though. And imagine if you will nice crispy potatoes. And just keep on imagining. Cause these ones were soggy.

I can confidently say the coffee was the best part of this meal.

For $27 on a relatively slow day at the Boathouse I expect more. This was not good enough.

Nice spot overlooking the river though. That’s something.

  1. Yeah…. the food is overpriced, and aside from the seafood, not much to write home about. Too bad, because it is great to have caesars and look out the windows, though. I love the setting. For breakfast, we quite enjoyed Angelina’s. Have you tried that one?

  2. The Boathouse is very overpriced for the food you get. The food is terrible for lunch and dinner in our experience. We have never tried it for brunch and probably never based on our lunch and dinner experiences.

  3. Agreed…we went a couple weeks ago. Overpriced, slow…had to send our ceasar drinks back as they were awful. They did replace with better ones. Could have had a better meal for half the price at Craft Cafe next door.
