Blaine WA
It’s a nice day for some out there and we are going for tacos.
Just across the border in Blaine is my personal favorite taqueria. Well, outside of Mexico proper that is.
It started life as a food truck in the parking lot of the gas station next door but got so popular it moved into this spot.
There’s no indoor seating here, so summer is the perfect time to come.
They have a very good selection of items on the menu.
You can see all the options spread around the windows in the photo above.
I have tried the chile relleno, it was good.
I’ve also had the Birria. Very good.
But I normally stick with just tacos.
Today I had pescado, pastor and lengua.
That’s fish. Pork and beef tongue.
All three were very good but today my favorite was the lengua.
Beef tongue is a very tough cut to work with. So preparation is done low and slow to make it turn out beautifully tender like this was. The cilantro really added a nice touch to this taco.
The fish, though deep fried (not my favorite in a taco, grilled is so much better) was still excellent. It used to be grilled here, I’m not sure why they changed. It has lettuce and pico de gallo which adds a burst of freshness. Of course with some salsa verdé to add a little kick.
And lastly the pastor. A bit dry today. This does happen sometimes since it’s roasted on a spit. The pineapple adds a little moisture and sweetness. Salsa Verdé again of course.
A meal here is always good. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve eaten here. And I can’t remember a bad one.
If you’re in Blaine this is definitely worth a quick stop.
