Happy Lamb Hot Pot

Coquitlam BC

The boys are continuing their quest to try out different restaurants in Coquitlam tonight.

Happy Lamb Hot Pot has been on our radar for a few weeks and we finally decided to go tonight.

Before we get to that though Sláinte Mhath!

Happy Robbie Burns Day!

If you’re at all interested in learning how to pronounce the Scottish way of saying cheers click here.

And now let’s go to the other side of the world.

If you’re not familiar with how hot pot works, and none of us were, you select different foods from a buffet and then cook them yourself in a broth placed on an induction burner in the middle of the table.

The hot pot and the cooking guide

Tonight we all picked the $31 all you can eat.

Now if you’re a big eater this place is for you.

There’s a very good selection of meat and fish and chicken and vegetables and noodles. From this rather large selection (I didn’t count but must be at least 60 or 70 different items) you pick what you want to eat and then cook it yourself in the soup.

They have a little hot appetizer section as well

Well I say hot with that likely being the intention and certainly desired temperature. But all three items were basically stone cold. And the chow mein was rather greasy. The fresh batch of chicken wings did come out later and when they were hot they were actually pretty good.

Here’s my selection of foodstuffs that caught my eye.

Ok here’s the rundown.

The good:

Prawns

Lotus

Quail eggs

Sweet potato

Lamb

White fish

The meh:

Noodles

Beef

Aorta

Chicken

Crab balls

The bad:

Lamb balls

Fish balls

Crab

One thing that is slightly concerning to me is the food safe issue. Honestly there is a real concern for cross contamination with all the raw meats and also the possibilty of food poisoning from undercooked proteins. So we made a pact between the 4 of us first one at emergency let the rest of us know.

Honestly an all you can eat is wasted on me. I just don’t eat enough to make it worthwhile.

Though it’s not expensive. All in it was $40 and if you’re a big eater you could go to town. With a decent selection of meat and veg to boot. Relatively healthy all things considered.

So while I didn’t have the greatest experience, I’m putting this down to the incompatibility of me with this restaurant. Not the restaurant itself. If you like to eat a lot, give the Happy Lamb Hot Pot a try. I’ll be across the street at Neptune Seafood or Cactus.

I will abstain from a rating this time.
