Bacchus

Vancouver BC

It’s date night. Dinner and Jazz.

I was at Bacchus a number of years ago and it was excellent. I was expecting nothing less than that tonight.

The atmosphere was romantic. Music from the piano, low light, warm and comfortable.

To start, wine.

Painted Rock Syrah. This is a great wine from a great winery. I’ve been a few times. I think they are producing some of the best reds from BC. Rich and bold flavours with black pepper and blackberries.

First we are presented with an Amuse Bouche.

Goat cheese, prosciutto and walnuts on a sourdough crostini. Could have used a touch more goat cheese, but still very good

Our appy is Tuna Tartare. Albacore tuna, tomato, avocado, cilantro and Tamari with wonton crisps. Think Ceviche without the citrus. It was a really big portion size too. Glad we shared. It was mild, but still tasted great. The addition of the tamari zinged it up just the right amount. Perfect with the wonton crisps.

My entreé was Ricotta Mascarpone Ravioli with a black truffle Beurre Blanc sauce. Beurre Blanc has become one of my favorite sauces over the last few years. Rich and tangy, it went really well with the two cheeses in the ravioli, both on the milder side. I could eat this all night. Merilynn said “YUK!” Not a black truffle fan. That’s ok! I’d have two portions myself.

Merilynn went with a crusted Halibut.

Pickled artichokes, carrots, fennel and a pea pureé. Everything here was very nice. Fish was seasoned perfectly. The fennel had a nice crunch. My only complaint being the fish was slightly overcooked. Slightly. Like maybe 20 seconds.

To finish the evening we refreshed our palate with in house made sorbet.

You get to pick 3 flavours from 5 choices. We went with Blackberry, Blueberry and Mango. Hard to pick which one was best. Mango methinks.

As you’d expect in a high end restaurant the service was fantastic. Shout out to Franklin and the team.

Now off to see Roots and Herbs.
