Burnaby BC
Tucked away in a little hole (careful you might miss it at first, we did) in North Burnaby is a little cafeteria known as The Gray Olive.
It has a modern and comfortable feel, but a bit austere. And small. Really small. But we were early. First ones there as a matter of fact. And 35 minutes later when we departed it was full. So go early!
We had the Crab Cake Benny. Overall quite well done. Eggs were poached soft, the crab cake was flavourful and the red pepper relish was really nice. The Hollandaise was ok, I like mine more tangy. The fruit bowl was quite big and was freshly cut, not some precut fruit salad you often see at other cheap greasy spoons. It really helped cleanse the palate after that very rich Benny.
They have quite a nice menu here. Besides the Crab Cake Benny they have a Pulled Pork and a Braised Beef Benny as well. I have to say the Lemon Ricotta pancakes will be my choice on my next visit here.
The prices aren’t unreasonable for a breakfast of this quality. Definitely a better option than the Denny’s down the street anyways.
