Gillnetter

Port Coquitlam BC

What does it say about a restaurant when the only good thing that you have to say about dinner is that the beer was good?

Started with a flight.

It was a Raddler, and Strawberry Wheat Ale, and a Sour. All were great. If you’ve never tried a flight, it’s a great way to sample a few tastes rather than just one flavour.

Chicken wings for an appie. Nothing to tell here. Pick any bar in North America and you’re gonna get chicken wings just as good, or bad. Depends how you look at it I guess. All I got was sticky fingers.

Halibut and chips for dinner.

The fries were crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle. I’m not a fry guy but these were ok.

So overall I wasn’t, oh wait, I almost forgot the fish.

The fish was entirely, well, forgettable. Too much batter and very bland. We are fish and chips lovers, and we did not finish our pieces.

So tonight was a fail at the Gillnetter. Good thing they have a great patio.

The more I have fish and chips at pubs and other non “chippys” the more I am convinced that fish and chips should be left to the professionals. Like Cockney Kings.

Food 5/10

Ambiance 10/10

Value 7/10

Overall 5/10

Even the patio can’t save you from a 5 this time Gillnetter.
