Earl’s Test Kitchen

Vancouver BC

Stop number two on our crawl today. Just around the corner from Joey Burrard.

I said to Merilynn, “the Dynamite roll at Earl’s is fantastic, let’s go try it after Joey. It’s better than most dynamite rolls I’ve had at sushi restaurants.”

Well guess what? This location doesn’t have it. They have some new roll with rice paper. Why are these restaurants switching to rice papers rolls? The one at Cactus sucks. I can’t imagine this one is any better.

Well we will just wait for another time. Other Earls have the original dynamite roll.

So for today….

Watermelon slushie

Ok all slushies need to be like this. A really nice blend of sweet and sour. Vodka based.

Watermelon Basil Smash

The basil adds a really nice peppery note to the drink. This one is rum based. Beautiful.

Spicy tuna taco

Since there’s no dynamite roll, we decided on the tacos. Wow these were great. The soy sesame wrappers were way better than expected. Then a little sushi rice, tuna sashimi, shiso and mango.

The flavours all worked together so well. I probably could eat 5 or 6 of these.

I’m still a little disappointed about the dynamite roll though.

No time to make it to Cactus today unfortunately.
